University Auxiliary Services at Albany, Inc. (UAS), is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that invests in and provides services to enhance the educational, research, learning and living experiences of the University at Albany community.  

While UAS offices are located at UAlbany, job openings are neither New York State nor SUNY positions. UAS is an independent nonprofit corporation, so neither State nor University benefits and pay scales apply.

Marketing Student Assistant
Marketing Student Assistant

Are you a creative and outgoing student with a passion for social media, content creation, and marketing? University Auxiliary Services (UAS) is looking for a Marketing Student Assistant to help promote campus initiatives, events, and services. 

In this role, you’ll assist with digital and print marketing, social media engagement, and event promotions. You should be comfortable appearing on camera for video content, creating engaging visuals, and helping manage marketing campaigns. 

If you love social media, storytelling and connecting with the campus community, this is the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing! Starting hourly wage is $16.00 per hour.  

This is a temporary student position. Employment is contingent on full-time status as a student at the University at Albany. Schedules can be customized based on academic schedules and business needs and are generally seven to 18 hours per week. Summer and intersession hours may be available, but student employees cannot regularly exceed 20 hours per week and cannot work 1,000 hours or more per year.
 

Job Description

Job Title: Marketing Student Assistant (temporary)

Department: Marketing 

Supervisor: Marketing & Digital Media Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Position Status: Student Part-Time Temporary (less than 1,000 hours per year)

Job Summary: The Marketing Student Assistant works under the guidance of the UAS Marketing & Communications management team to help promote campus initiatives, events, and services. Specific responsibilities include assisting with digital and print marketing, social media engagement, event promotions, videos, storytelling, a community engagement and marketing campaigns. This is a hands-on in-person position that requires appearing in videos and connecting with the community. Time may be spent seated in an office and/or walking across campus.

Primary Responsibilities including Technical and Communications Skills:

  • Marketing
    • On-Camera Presence: Be comfortable appearing in photographs and video content for social media, promotional campaigns, and event coverage.
    • Content & Communications: Assist with routine updates to marketing communications, event calendars, and promotional materials.
    • Marketing Strategy & Research: Help identify, promote, and evaluate marketing initiatives through research and data tracking.
    • Social Media Analytics: Assist in tracking engagement statistics for UAS social media channels
    • Multimedia Production: Support video and photo production/editing to enhance digital marketing efforts.
    • Graphic Design & Branding: Help design and prepare print and digital marketing materials.
    • Campus Engagement & Promotions: Assist in organizing events and online promotions
    • Campus Marketing Presence: Regularly tour campus reviewing and posting marketing materials and engaging with the campus community
  • Data & Analysis
    • Create and maintain databases and reports, including extensive use of EXCEL
    • Compile and enter data
  • Office and administrative
    • Conduct webpage reviews for content accuracy
    • Accurately file (hard copy and/or electronic) forms, records and documents
    • Maintain customer information displays and signage as assigned
    • Makes deliveries on campus
  • Organizes effectively and demonstrates the ability to work on tasks and projects both independently and in a collaborative environment as appropriate.
  • Communication Skills
    • Effectively communicates verbally, non-verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences
    • Effectively listens and demonstrate the ability to ask relevant questions
  • Performs other functions in support of all UAS departments as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting of up to 20 pounds
  • Extended periods of computer use
  • Extended periods of walking (indoor & outdoor)
  • This is an in-person position; attendance is essential

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Enthusiasm for social media and content creation

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • A full-time, enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at University at Albany
  • Must be available to work seven to 15 hours a week during the academic year as business dictates. This may include a flexible schedule with early mornings, nights and/or weekends.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
